Effective Listening Skills”. Gardi Vidyapith, one of the prominent institutes of saurashtra region has added one more feather in their crown. Gardi Vidyapith has arranged a workshop in association with Confederation of Indian Industry for the students of Management regarding “Effective Listening Skills”. Almost 100 students and 8 faculties have participated in the workshop of CII. The program was started with words of creating favorable environment for Industry. CII Rajkot zone is doing various activities like, training of industrial people, workshop to improve their skills, Faculty Development Programs, Interactive Session Seminar, Buyer-Seller Meets and Student Development Programs & Industry-academia Collaboration Learning Programs. After having a warm welcome of dignitaries i.e., Mr. Jayesh Parekh, Coordinator, CII & Ms. Vaishali Parekh, CEO, Krish Consultancy, session started with a brief introduction of CII and achievements over a period of time. Ms. Vaishali Parekh has started her session by saying a famous quote “When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know, but if you listen, then you may learn something new.” She said difference between effective listening and active listening followed by few facts like, an individual person can hear 125 – 250 wpm and can thing 1000 – 3000 wpm out of this only 2% of people have had formal education with listening. Then she explained difference between listening & hearing, she said that hearing is passive while listening is an active activity. Then she said 4 stems of listening of listening which includes hearing, interpretation, evaluation & response or action. Students also got knowledge for reasons of poor listening like lack of effort, message overload, rapid thought, psychological noise, physical noise, hearing problems and faulty assumptions. She shared live example of excessive usage of face book. She put pressure of four personal listening styles like content oriented listening, people oriented listening, action oriented listening and time oriented listening. With her concluding remarks she said that “Effective listeners remember that words have not meaning people have meaning”. The chairman of Gardi Vidyapith, Shri D.V.Mehta has highlighting on X-Factor saying that an individual should have unique skills to outperform in this era. Mr. Prashant Mehta, CEO has also emphasized on active listening instead of being a passive listener. Mr. Sandip Solanki, Director, MBA Department shares his views by focusing on the importance of listening in student life.
